Welcome to the blog!

The Royal County is jammed packed with great experiences. Whether you are travelling as a couple, a family or as a group of friends, there is so much to see and do. Meath is so accessible from all corners of Ireland. We are only 30 minutes from Dublin, 90 minutes from Belfast and two and a half hours from Cork. Perfect for a weekend away or a longer staycation. To help you plan your break away we have put together our top 5 things to so in Meath this summer.

  1. Visit some of our heritage sites

Meath is known as the birthplace of Ireland’s Ancient East. There are 5000 years of history here and so many historical sites and landscapes to discover. Take a trek up to Loughcrew Cairns, the highest point in County Meath. Visit Trim Castle and Bective Abbey (Where Braveheart was filmed). Or discover the Hill of Ward- where Halloween began. All these sites are within half an hour drive of the Lawrence Hotel in Athboy. Check out the new 2021 brochure from Boyne Valley Tourism here.

Not situated in the Boyne Valley (but we live in hope), Fiona Daltons musical history tours of Dublin are a must when you are visiting Ireland. The Tour starts in Christchurch in Dublin (only 40 minutes from Athboy) and brings you on a musical wander of all the historic landmarks in our capital. Find out more on her website here.

2. Travel for a food and drink experience

The Boyne Valley is well known for its amazing food and drink experiences. From sharing ice-cream with the kids on Causey Farm, to enjoying Boyne Boats artisan food experience or sipping award winning whiskey at Slane Distillery.

Our Good friend, Gerry Meade over at Meade’s Menu is an expert in all things food. Pay a visit to his website to read blogs on local recipes, restaurant visits and all things food in the Boyne Valley.

Of course you will also find an amazing dining experience at the Lawrence Hotel and Coburns bar also.

3. Discover adventure on our waterways.

The Boyne Valley is named after the River Boyne which has a rich historical, archaeological and mythical heritage. A lot of the activities based on the Boyne involve some form of history tour. A lot of our beautiful heritage sites are situated along the Boyne so you don’t have to be on it to appreciate it. Check out Boyne Valley Activities in Trim for some great water activity options this summer.

4. Visit our adventure parks

For young and old, an adventure park is always a great day out. Try a family activity package with Navan Adventure centre, spoil yourself with a day in Tayto Park or enjoy all the fun on Causey Farm. Talk to us today about our all inclusive family packages at the Lawrence Hotel.

5. Relax in our hotel

Relax where-ever you are in County Meath- but there is no where better to relax than in the Lawrence Hotel in Athboy. Spoil yourself with a treatment in our spa rooms, chill in our residents lounge or sip on a glass of wine in Noels confessional in Coburns Lounge. We have it all for you here in the Lawrence Hotel.
